TWO young mothers have been dealt a serious blow financially after becoming victims of car thefts in the past week.
Yesterday a West Kempsey mother of three discovered her uninsured car burnt out on the oval of St Pauls College.
The womans mother told The Argus yesterday that she had only bought the vehicle to make it easier to transport her children around.
Skid marks and what was left of the burnt-out vehicle caused damage to the surface of the school oval.
Kempsey mother of two Katie Oldfield was also the victim of car thieves.
Last Saturday night Mrs Oldfields uninsured sports edition Hyundai Excel was parked on her front lawn, but by Sunday morning it was gone.
They broke into my home while we were sleeping and stole the car keys, the 25-year-old said.
The car was later found abandoned in West Kempsey on the corner of Keith Moses Crescent and Gordon Nixon Ave.
It must have broken down on them and they just ditched it, Mrs Oldfield said.
They smashed my CD player, air cooler and most of all stole my two baby seats.
Mrs Oldfield said it was hard enough raising two young children without having to worry about the cost of repairing her vehicle.
I at least want my baby seats back, she said.
Im going to have to use dads car until I can afford to get it fixed.
Another stolen vehicle was burnt on the St Pauls school oval last weekend.
The male owner lost about $2000 worth of sound and speaker equipment after his uninsured car was stolen.
A Kempsey policeman yesterday said he felt for the owners of the vehicles.
Anyone with information is asked to call Kempsey Police on 6563 7199.
